Build a successful web presence with Google Search (Google I/O '1 8)
Increased the number of sites visits from Google at 2.7 times.
So this is a Japanese website, Rakuten Recipes,
00:53
and they wanted to get more users.
00:56
They also have a ton of delicious recipes
00:59
on their site.
01:00
So they were wondering what can we
01:01
do to get more people to notice us in Search?
01:05
And what they decided to do is they changed their CMS in order
01:10
to be able to mark up every recipe that
01:12
is added to the site with structured data markup.
01:15
And what this does is it lets the search engine know
01:18
that there are different entities, so
01:21
things like cooking time, different ingredients,
01:23
a picture, and lets us display the result in a much more
01:28
attractive way in the search results.
01:30
And the site itself was in Japanese.
01:32
So we decided to switch off the markup,
01:34
for those of you who don't speak Japanese,
01:36
to something more legible.
01:37
So instead of dumplings, you have here a party coffee cake,
01:41
but it works the same way for dumplings.
01:43
And this is how this ends up looking
01:45
like in the search results.
01:47
So you can see that in addition to the regular elements
01:50
of the search page, so they have a title, they have the URL,
01:53
and then they have the description,
01:55
they also have a really nice picture of dumplings.
01:58
And then they have the cooking time as well.
02:01
So this worked out for them pretty well.
02:04
In fact, kind of spectacularly.
02:06
So they got 2.7 times more traffic from Search.
